Wanted: Sailing Without Hassle
I started SailboatsToGo LLC because I love sailing and I hate expense and hassle. When I get the impulse to be on the lake or bay under sail, I want to just go and be sailing within the hour. When I'm not sailing, I don't want mooring fees, trailer license fees, storage issues, maintenance issues etc. My personal sailing history went like this:
I looked at and rented Sunfish -- Too Heavy on land and it's strictly bathing-suit sailing, which is no good in early Spring or in Fall.
I owned a Super Snark. It was a blast. The Super Snark or Sunflower can be a great solution for portable sailing if you don't mind the lack of creature comforts and you have a way to store it under cover. See them here .
I built a plywood sailboat. Too heavy and it required a trailer, and annual maintenance, and was not comfortable.
I looked at and rented the Escape. Too heavy. Trailer required. Not comfortable, not dry.
1st Solution: Canoe Sailing
At last I bought a sail rig for my canoe . FABULOUS! Roomy, lightweight, dry, comfy, fun to sail. So great, that I wanted to bring the sail rig with me on vacations to the Caribbean. But there are no canoes to rent in the Caribbean.
So I tried a Sevylor sail rig on a Caravelle inflatable raft. Took it in my luggage on the airplane. GREAT CONCEPT, poor execution.
2nd Solution: Sailing Inflatables
So, I junked the Sevylor rig and started from scratch with the Sevylor hull, some parts from my canoe sail rig and some ingenuity. The resulting inflatable sailboat worked so well I was surprised, delighted and eager to share it with the world. SailboatsToGo was born, selling my rig for inflatable dinghies, as well as canoe and kayak sail rigs along with other boating accessories.

BoatsToGo offers new and improved lateen sail kit that is great for all your Do-It-Yourself sailing projects. Large, 45sqf sail offers great performance, but still can break down to fit into portable mesh storage sleeve.
New Sail Kit can be installed in many types of inflatable and hard hull boats, canoes, catamarans, etc as a DIY project.
Sail kit consist of heavy-duty aluminum mast, that breaks into 2 pieces, and 2-part booms. To fold sail, you will simply raise lower boom along with sail toward mast, and then secure with optional bungee cord or rope.
Please note that this is DIY kit, and it is up to the customer to decide how to install and secure sail to their watercraft. We do not provide any particular instructions or suggestions for this matter.
Sail kit comes with a heavy-duty aluminum flange that can be bolted to most flat surfaces.
Included FREE Mesh storage bag.
Plenty of ropes and straps for various installation options.

Our standard kits include EVERYTHING essential to sail a canoe except lifejackets, wind and water. Some other suppliers will offer a kit that is just a sail, mast and boom and maybe some rope and call it a "canoe sail kit." But you can't sail with just that. You also need leeboards (necessary to counteract side-slip when sailing in any direction other than straight down wind), steering, mast step (socket), outrigger pontoons, and clamps and crossbars to attach all of this to your canoe. Every part needed to convert your canoe into a fully functional sailboat is included and it all clamps on easily, comes off again easily and folds away for easy transport and storage.
The stabilizer pontoon (outrigger) system included with this kit is a $319 value that will prove equally useful when not sailing. Staying right-side-up is a great idea when you paddle, row or motor your canoe as well. Stabilizer pontoons are especially valuable when you fish, swim, picnic or camp with your canoe. You can use the stabilizers without the rest of the sail kit whenever you want. The stabilizers adjust up-down with a lever-lock mechanism and in-out with a spring button system.
This kit folds for compact storage and easy inside-the-trunk transporting. When folded, the entire kit, including the mast, boom, spar and stabilizer floats, fits in an optional carry-bag that measures just 1'x1'x4'. That's right -- the entire folded kit fits easily in a bag no bigger than a golf club travel-cover bag. Weight is just 44 lbs. including the stabilizer system and every other part mentioned above.

High Seat - Special add-on canoe seat
A great canoe sailing or rowing accessory. Two benefits: (1) Gives you a high, wide bench seat so you can easily shift your weight side to side to counterbalance the force of the wind and keep the canoe upright; (2) Lets you put your seat where you want it, to improve bow-to-stern balance, especially good for solo sailing to keep the bow down. When you have the freedom to shift your weight all the way over to the windward side and even a little beyond, it adds a whole new dimension to canoe sailing. Inflatable stabilizer floats and arms -white Inflatable stabilizer floats with float arms that slide into the front crossbar of any of our sail kits.
Don't have a pump? We have a good one for a low price: But inflation by mouth also works well-- about 8 puffs.
Combine this with a for a complete stabilizer system if you don't have a sail kit.
Rugged, yet more portable than our other stabilizer floats because they deflate. Very puncture resistant and they inflate quickly and easily a few strokes of the pump or puffs by mouth. This item is not designed with the up/down adjustment. This item is just floats and arms for adding to a sail kit, rowing setup, or other product that already has crossbar for them to slide into. For sailing, you generally use floats in all-the-way-up position anyway, so if that's the intended use of your stabilizers, you don't need up/down adjustment. But we can upgrade to a version with up-down adjustment for $20 more. Just put a note in the order comments. Our rigid stabilizer perform better in some respects but are not as portable and compact to store. Free shipping applies if ordered with other things. This is our own house-brand product and if a much improved product, in that the floats have thicker skin and 3-point attachment system so they hold their shape better and resist tipping forward or backward.

Canoe side rudder - substitute for steering oar Use this item to delete the steering oar unit and steering oar from a canoe sail kit you are ordering today and substitute in the complete side rudder unit. This item number can only be used with a canoe sail kit purchase. We like sailing with a steering oar. But we know some prefer a conventional rudder. The advantage of the rudder is less arm effort, less drag. The advantage of the steering oar is lower cost and you have steering control even if the boat loses forward momentum. Also, the steering oar system is more portable (breaks down smaller and weighs less.)

Add this item to replace a standard pair of steering oars with a pair that is convertible into a kayak paddle. The blade sections of the steering oars snap together to make one double-bladed kayak paddle. Mad River Adventure canoes require substitution of special clamps (no extra cost); request them in comment section of checkout. Safety note: Motoring solo from the rear seat of a canoe is dangerous, because the uneven weight distribution puts the bow up in the air, and then the thrust of the motor can put it more up in the air, to the point where you could flip or swamp. At a minimum, put some weight up front. Better yet, turn canoe around and use the bow seat as the rear seat, which will put you and the motor closer to the middle. Upgrade standard mast to super heavy duty This item upgrades a standard mast that is already in your order to Super Heavy Duty. This is an upgrade item and cannot be purchased unless a standard mast is already in your order, either as part of a sail kit or by itself. If there is a sail kit in your order, then this item will also upgrade the mast step to the larger size needed for this mast and the mast slide to larger size, both at no additional cost.
Benefits of a stronger mast: (1) Stiffer, so your boat reacts quicker when you start on a new course and no energy is lost flexing the mast; (2) stronger, so you can go out in stronger winds with a heavier boat and withstand the resulting greater forces without mast failure.

Fishing Boat Sail Rig Everything you need to sail your fishing boat in a compact folding kit that just clamps on and away you go. No drilling or other modification of your boat is needed. This is intended for aluminum, fiberglass and plastic open boats. The gunwale clamps grab underneath the little horizontal lip that almost all such boats have at the top edge of the sides. If your boat has no lip, we can provide a bolt-on bracket that the clamps can mate with for $19 additional.
The rig includes a 45 s.f. nylon sail (red-white-blue-yellow), spars, mast, mast step (socket), frame that clamps to the boat and accepts the mast step and leeboard mounts, leeboards, gunwale clamps, a rear crossbar that goes just forward of the transom and provides pivot points for the ruddering oar, and a special wide-bladed ruddering oar and oarlock. You can even sail with an outboard mounted on the transom, because our ruddering oar (steering oar) system has many alternate pivot points: If the center positions are blocked by an outboard, use one of the side positions. This is the steering oar version, which is the version that works with an outboard motor on the transom. The steering oar also has an advantage over a traditional rudder in that you can turn the boat with it even if you have no forward motion. A rudder requires the boat to be moving in order to work. A steering oar does not, so you can't get stuck "in irons" (pointed head-on into the wind and not moving). But a steering oar puts a little more strain on your arm than a rudder does in a strong wind. Complete rudder with sturdy clamp-on mount that allows up-down and tilt adjustment. Kick-up blade allows beaching and protects against damage from underwater objects. Use on square-back canoe, rowboat, Walker Bay 8 or 10, fishing boat, inflatable transom boat (Zodiac and similar). Even mount on side of canoe using a canoe motor mount. Clamps to transom or motor mount just like a trolling motor. See if you want to substitute this rudder for a non-clamp-on rudder in a sail kit you are ordering.
Optional push-pull tiller system: . If conventional swing tiller is a problem in your installation, add our Tiller Turner option. This offsets the tiller motion to the side and converts your arm motion to push-pull instead of side to side. For example, mount rudder beside a motor, and tip up one or the other, depending on which you are using.
