How Much is a Yacht Club Membership? 3 Common Price Ranges

Dinner table set onboard a yacht with the text "how much is a yacht club membership?" superimposed over the image

The cost of an annual yacht club membership can vary widely depending on several factors, such as the location of the club, the amenities offered, the exclusivity of the membership, and the size of the yacht being accommodated. We’ve compiled a set of guidelines below to help you estimate what you can expect to pay for an annual yacht club membership.

Local or Less Exclusive Yacht Clubs

Afternoon party at a local yacht club

These clubs might offer basic amenities such as docking facilities, a clubhouse, and some social events. Annual fees can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Membership fees could be as low as $500 to $2,000 per year.

Mid-Range Yacht Clubs:

Mid-range yacht club facility

These clubs may offer more extensive amenities, including high-quality dining facilities, repair and maintenance services, fitness centers, and a busy calendar of social and boating activities. Annual fees for these clubs can range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more.

Prestigious or Exclusive Yacht Clubs

Yacht party during sunset among members of a prestigious yacht club in Miami

The most exclusive yacht clubs, often located in prime locations with extensive facilities and services, can have annual membership fees that are significantly higher. These can range from $10,000 to $30,000 or more per year, with some of the most elite clubs costing even more. Additionally, these clubs might have initiation fees that can range from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It’s also important to note that many yacht clubs have additional costs beyond the annual membership dues. These can include initiation fees for new members, monthly minimum spending requirements at the club’s facilities, and additional fees for docking, storage, and maintenance services.

Additional Considerations

Some yacht clubs require yacht ownership as a prerequisite before being accepted into the club. Hence, while the yacht club membership itself might only be between $500 and $2,000, the true price of a yacht club membership might be tied to the cost of ownership of your yacht as well.

Bottom Line: Simply Ask If Interested

If you’re interested in joining a yacht club, make a list of yacht clubs that you might be interested in joining, and reach out to them via email or phone to get the most accurate and up-to-date information. Most yacht club members are quite friendly and are willing to help those who are interested in joining.

We wish you good luck in your yacht club search, and hope that you were able to find this article helpful.

Great place to have a weeding, host big meetings, and formal dinners. Very nice grounds, and of course, a nice place to have your boat stashed! I've done a few live musical engagements at this venue, and the staff has always treated me very nice.

Always great service! The employees are sweet and so very helpful. The food is excellent and the newly renovated outside patio creates a casually elegant atmosphere.

Attended a holiday party here. They were really busy that evening, with two large parties (ours was a smaller group). Valet was backed up down S Patrick so it was taking a while for our guests to arrive. We enjoyed great service with cocktails out by the fire, plenty of appetizers. My friend and I are both vegan so our options were limited to one entree, but it was delicious. Dinner was served kind of late, but again, they were really busy. Service was attentive. Cocktails were made well.

It's a nice enough place. Good tennis courts, good food, nice views.

This is an invitation-only club. The club offers green clay tennis courts (nice on the knees). Great brunches and holiday menu's. People play bridge here and do other yacht-y type things like sit around and drink wine while watching their boats parked in the harbor at sunset. I've been here for thanksgiving quite a number of times with family and I'm always astounded with their presentation and selection of salads, main, courses, and especially desserts. Its invitation only, so send me a message if you want an invite to spend lots of money.

You would think that a private club with a huge operating budget could get things right. This place can't! It seems to me that the majority of members must not know quality from average or they wouldn't put up with the management. If this facility were an independent business it would fold in a heartbeat. Instead, it's run like our government who just keeps raising taxes, this place just keeps raising prices and dues to cover the cost of poor management while losing members. The attitude of the employees is that it's just a job. There's no pride for them to 'know' and recognize the members as they once did. Once they get to know the manager they leave. Sweaty vinyl covered chairs combined with over-spiced, over flavored average ingredients served at premium prices is not what a private club is supposed to be. Add the fixed high gratuities with additional gratuities encouraged (in writing on the checks) and dirty tableware makes one wonder what hell level of quality, or lack thereof is acceptable to these people. Do they not know what a good quality restaurant experience is? IMO: the current management is totally incompetent to run a high-end quality private club and the board of governors obviously aren't qualified either. The entire operation is a high priced joke! (Also my opinion!)

To give you an idea of what you could expect to pay for your yacht club membership, here are some numbers gathered from across the country:

What are the Cheapest Yacht Clubs?

The cheapest yacht clubs charge just under $1,000 per year for membership. While this does give you access to different types of experiences, you may be disappointed by the overall amenities.

Some yacht clubs are known for their extravagant country club styles that help you to embrace a particular lifestyle. They include Olympic-sized swimming pools, state-of-the-art tennis courts, and fine dining.

Everything has a beautiful waterfront view. It can feel like you are in the middle of an idyllic paradise without ever even having to leave the shore. If this is what you can gain from the most expensive yacht clubs, you should set your expectations much lower for the cheaper yacht clubs.

The cheaper yacht clubs lack the community aspect of these exclusive options. They feature dry slips and the occasional party, but not much more.

Some of them may have the feel of a county park with some picnic benches, outdoor grills, and a moderately sized swimming pool. Expect a much more casual atmosphere when you choose to go with a cheaper yacht club.

It is even possible that they are simply “paper yacht clubs” that do not even maintain a physical building of their own.

How Much Do the Most Expensive Yacht Clubs Cost to Join?

The most expensive yacht clubs can vary a great deal in price. Most of them will cost between $3,000 and $4,000 per year. However, you can certainly find more exclusive clubs that will cost above and beyond this.

Keep in mind that these more expensive clubs generally are not open to the public. They are offered by invitation only and you must have a member sponsor you to be considered for entrance.

When you are paying for a more expensive yacht club, you should make sure that you are really going to get your money’s worth. These expensive clubs promote a certain type of elegant lifestyle.

Make sure that you are planning to take advantage of all the amenities available from one of these clubs before you sink too much money into the membership fees. The social aspect of these expensive yacht clubs is extremely important.

If you plan to simply rent a boat from time to time, you might be able to go with a cheaper yacht club.

What Is Generally Included in the Membership Fee for Yacht Clubs?

Have you been wondering why you should join a yacht club? Many potential members want to know what they can expect from their membership fees before they commit to a year-long contract. There are many advantages to signing up for a membership with a well-known yacht club.

Amenities and Activities

First and foremost, you get access to activities and cruises planned by board members. These might be various sailing activities, dinners, get-togethers, tennis matches, or other events that take up a lazy Sunday afternoon.

You also gain access to any amenities that surround the yacht club’s marina. For many programs, this means a fitness center, pool, and tennis courts. Several locations also offer fine dining, meeting rooms, and more.

It is like a private oasis where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the regular world. Time moves slowly when you’re enjoying the amenities here.

Many yacht clubs have programs that introduce children (and adults!) to sailing. Take classes to learn more about improving your technique, sailing safety, and other important aspects of life on the open water.

Access to the Fleet

The main reason why most people join yacht clubs is to be able to rent out boats instead of purchasing their own. Joining a yacht club may give you access to an entire fleet of yachts that can be reserved for a day or weeks at a time. Some yacht clubs allow you to rent boats for up to ten days at a time.

Others do not allow you to rent out ships. They are primarily geared toward individuals who already own a yacht or will own a yacht in the future. Make sure you know the difference in advance.

eau gallie yacht club membership cost

Are There any Additional Costs Besides the Membership Fees?

Unfortunately, the membership fees are not the only cost associated with joining a yacht club. Most of the clubs in the United States also have a one-time initial fee that tends to cost thousands of dollars. Many will range from $1,500 to $5,000 depending on the location and the exclusivity of the yacht club.

This one-time fee should be the only additional money you pay except for fuel. Most yacht clubs do not cover the cost of the fuel used in the ship during your rental if renting is an option. Be prepared for what this could cost you.

If you cause damage to the ship, you can also expect some out-of-pocket costs. Insurance should cover the damage, but you will likely be asked to cover the cost of the deductible.

Be sure to inquire about how much you may be on the hook for before you sign up for any particular yacht club. Accidents can happen, even to the most experienced sailors. Make sure that you can afford the mishap in advance.

Is a Yacht Club Membership Right for You?

Understanding what the real cost of a yacht club membership is can be the first step toward determining if this is right for you. Many people love the luxuries available through the more expensive yacht clubs, but they may not be able to afford it. Consider what is most important in a club to you before deciding to sign on the dotted line for an annual membership.

Eau Gallie Yacht Club to set sail on $1M in renovations

The Eau Gallie Yacht Club is about to get a major facelift after an April 23 zoning change approved by the Indian Harbour Beach City Council.

Founded in 1907, the Yacht Club, at the mouth of the Banana River, is a private club with membership capped at 900. Components include the lounge, dining and banquet room, and Harbor Grill overlooking the club’s marina.

The club had requested the zoning change to allow for about $1 million in extensive renovations at Harbor Grill and modifications to replace a temporary tent with covered seating area in the same architectural style as the main facility.

Stipulations agreed to by the City Council include: a 2-foot retaining wall to raise the slope on the west side; and no construction storage, parking or through-traffic at the home at 250 Camellia Terrace owned by club. Neighboring resident Dr. Anil Dhople also successfully requested that the club provide construction fencing or screening at the southern property line.

Interim General Manager Steve Hockett explained that the transformative change for the Harbor Grill has been a long time coming and represents the first of three phases, with later phases including improvements to the lobby and banquet rooms of the main building.

“It’s basically a hot dog stand that grew up over the years. As casual dining has become more important, it has become more important,” he said.

The Harbor Grill will be demolished and rebuilt on the same footprint with a new design, for which details are being worked out.

“The Harbor Grill is one of our most popular areas because the water views are great and the pool is right there. It’s just going to be that much better and the new kitchen will make for different and better food choices,’’ said Todd Braid, a member since 2002 serving a one-year term as club commodore. “This is going to make something that people love that much better.”

Construction is expected to begin July 1 and take about six months to complete.

STORM BREWS OVER YACHT CLUB PLAN PROPOSAL TO RENOVATE SATELLITE BEACH CLUBHOUSE ANGERS MEMBERS

The plan, which will be voted on by about 675 members in February, suggests broad changes in the layout of the main building, improvements to the kitchen and bar, repaving the parking lot, resurfacing the six tennis courts and adding 10 boat slips.

The changes would not increase the size of the building much, due to zoning restrictions on the property about a mile north of the Eau Gallie Causeway off South Patrick Drive on the Indian River.

The plan is to replace the bad wiring, air conditioning and carpeting and makes more private dining space from now unused space in the main dining room, Vice Commodore Dr. Richard Baney said Thursday.

“If this doesn’t have the great majority’s support, then we’ll go back and design something less ambitious,” he said. “We’re interested in doing what the membership wants.”

Cost and inconvenience are two big complaints from four members who signed a letter opposing the renovations.

Accompanying the letter was a list of about 50 members who also oppose the plan.

Those members are concerned that the renovation would mean parts of the club would be closed for at least a month, and general use might be limited for as long as six months.

The bill would be paid by the nearly 1,050 members — two-thirds of whom have voting rights — over a five-year period.

Each voting member would pay between $1,900 and $2,000. Non-voting members would pay less.

Members already pay about $3,000 to join, about $400 in annual dues and at least $25 a month there for meals.

Another $2,000 to pay over five years is going too far, opponents said.

They said improvements are needed, but not the ones in the board’s proposal.

The opponents who signed the letter, Roland Asch, Alex Boyer, John R. D. Cleland and William Draper, also questioned the $8,000 cost for architectural drafts and consultant fees.

They said the money was spent even though the board had no preliminary opinion from the membership.

Commodore Phillip Nohrr said the opposition is a little premature because most members have not seen the proposal.

“We’re not trying to do anything more than take a proposal before the members to vote on,” he said.

Brochures on the renovations will be mailed to members soon, he said, and presentations will be made before a decision has to be made in February.

eau gallie yacht club membership cost

Eau Gallie Yacht Club derives its name from the town where it began.  The land that became the town of Eau Gallie, loosely translated French and Indian for “rocky water”, was acquired, founded, and platted by William H Gleason in 1870.   Its location is where the fresh waters of the Eau Gallie River flow into the Indian River just south of the southern tip of Merritt Island and the mouth of the Banana River.  It proved a good hurricane hole and access to traveling and trading up and down the Indian River.
As the town grew and boating was a major activity, a local yacht club was started in 1907. The first Commodore was George Paddison and 3 years later the Paddisons deeded the property fronting on the Eau Gallie River to the club.  An official club facility was completed 2 years later in 1912 which was the size of a 2 story house.  The club burgee is unique as having a Pattee cross, of French heraldry and used by the knights of the Crusades, surrounded by a royal blue circle on a white triangular pennant.  In its early years the club conducted many local, state, and national sailing regattas and an international regatta in 1936.
World War II saw the Commodore and many of the club’s gentlemen members leave to join the military.  To keep the club going, Mrs. Susan T. Edwards was bestowed the title of Commodore Emeritus as she stepped in to run Eau Gallie Yacht Club.  Another prominent woman member, Mrs. Carol H. Gleason, wife of Lansing Gleason whose family would again play an important role in the future of the club, also served in ways doing whatever was needed.  As yachting increased along the Intracoastal waterway, Eau Gallie Harbor and in turn Eau Gallie Yacht Club became a natural stopping spot.  The area’s population grew and access across the ICW to the barrier island was improved as small communities were started.
It was in 1959 that the Club launched a new chapter in its history.  The membership voted to dispose of the old clubhouse property and seek a new location on which to build and operate a new full-time Club with adequate docking and parking facilities.  As long-time and devoted members of the Club, the Gleason family generously gave over three acres in Indian Harbour Beach on the barrier island to the Club for its new home which is now its current location.  The Club’s membership expanded from a roster of 70 names in 1959 to over three hundred-two years later when the new clubhouse was opened on December 23, 1961.
With continued growth in membership and facilities, the Club’s reputation grew, and in January of 1982 Eau Gallie Yacht Club became the 25th member of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs.  This enabled its members to enjoy the benefits of reciprocity with the other council clubs and join them in working to protect yachting interests throughout the State of Florida
More than 100 plus years have passed since the founding of Eau Gallie Yacht Club.  Many changes have been made through the years, however, the mission to bring enjoyment to its members remains.  Continued improvements of facilities and programs are launching Eau Gallie Yacht Club into its second century.
