Sweden Yachts 54 TRILOGY is for sale and sporting many recent updates

We have always had a soft spot for Sweden Yachts as they represent such a superb combination of sparkling performance , total ease of handling and a high degree of creature comforts . The 42, 45 and 54 remain as popular and sought after today as they ever were.

Sweden Yachts 54 TRILOGY is a great example of the marque. She is still in her original ownership (with an experienced yachtsman). The yacht has enjoyed continuous maintenance and updates through her life, as a read through her full specification will testify.

With her rich dark blue topsides , teak decks topped with a white southern spars carbon mast (new 2016) and V boom, I defy any yachtsman to walk past her without pausing to appreciate her lines.

Not short on inventory either, she is fully equipped for adventurous offshore and bluewater sailing with generator, watermaker, heating, ample refrigeration, the list goes on…

Review of Sweden Yachts 54

Basic specs..

The Sweden Yachts 54 is equipped with a fin keel. A boat with a fin keel is more manoeuvrable but has less directional stability than a similar boat with a long keel.But be aware that even though a keel is very good for speed racing, a fishing nets and the like in the water can easily make you into a troublesome situation.

The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.

The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 2.60 - 2.70 meter (8.53 - 8.83 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Sweden Yachts 54 is typically equipped with an inboard Volvo Penta D2-75 diesel engine at 75.0 hp (55 kW), which gives a max speed about 7.1 knots.

The transmission is a saildrive.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 350 liters (92 US gallons, 76 imperial gallons).

SWEDEN YACHTS ARCHIVE

Where it all began…  Sweden Yachts was established in 1976 as Sweden Boats, building yachts to order such as the 12 meter R-Yacht which was Sweden’s contender for the America’s Cup. Shortly after completing a number of custom builds and changing the name to Sweden Yachts they took over production of the Comfort 34 from Comfort Boats, Arvika which they then renamed as the Sweden Yachts C34. Since then Sweden Yachts has gone on to produce 15 different models of boat in the range of 34 to 80 feet, all bar one were designed by Jens Östman and Peter Norlin.

The Comfort 34 designed by Kenneth Albinsson was presented around 1974 by Comfort Boats of Arvika, Sweden.

In 1978 Sweden Yachts in Stenungsund took over the model and the name was changed to C34.

Production continued until 1986 when the Sweden Yachts 340 was released. In total there were 235 boats built.

The Sweden Yachts 340 began production in 1986 with a total of 101 boats being produced until 1999. This was the first of many Sweden Yachts designed by Peter Norlin and Jens Östmann.

Sweden Yachts 36 was produced from 1984 to 1992 and was subsequently replaced by the Sweden Yachts 370. A total of 74 SY36 were built before the 370 came in to production.

A total of 36 Sweden Yachts 370 were built in total. Production began in 1993 until 1998.

The Sweden Yachts 38 began production in 1983 with a total of 85 boats built until production ceased in 1990.

A total of 73 Sweden Yachts 390 were built from 1991 until 2006.

The Sweedn Yachts 41 entered into production in 1981 with a total of 39 yachts being built. The 41 was produced until 1994.

The Sweden Yachts 50 was built from 1987 until 1996 with a total of 19 yachts built.

Only one Sweden Yachts 52 was ever produced in 1996. 

The Sweden Yachts 70 was a stunning yacht produced from 1994 until 1997 with a total of 3 yachts built. The SY 70 was available with either a sloop or ketch rig.

The Sweden Yachts 80 was the only other yacht by Sweden Yachts not designed by Jens Östman or Peter Norlin. This yacht was designed by German Frers and only two were ever produced in 1998.

New Fast, Efficient, Delta Carbon 54 Cruiser from Sweden

The super-modern Delta Carbon 54 is a fast, efficient cruiser from Sweden that’s made with infused carbon fiber for strength and light weight. The three-stateroom, two-head yacht with its distinctive angular profile tops out at 37 knots with twin 600-hp Volvo IPS800 pod drives; dial back to 7.5 knots, and the range is about 2,200 nm.

Delta Carbon Yachts are part of Delta Powerboats, started in Stockholm in 2002. They have built more than 600 boats from 25 to 88 feet. In 2010, the company started Delta Carbon Yachts; at the time, it was the only company to make production yachts using carbon fiber in both the hull and superstructure. Delta Carbon now makes 54-, 60- and 88-foot models.

The 54 is made for long-range cruising, with a deep-V hull and its vacuum-infused carbon fiber/divinycell/vinylester construction. The interior lines are clean and straight, and there are windows all around, plus a retractable sunroof, to let in lots of natural light. A door next to the helm on the starboard side gives easy access to the deck for help with lines and docking.

A Volvo IPS joystick at the helm makes easy work of docking or low-speed maneuvering. And a standard Seakeeper gyro stabilizer provides a comfortable ride even in choppy conditions.

The Delta Carbon 54 has three staterooms and two heads on the lower accommodation deck. The master is forward, with a king-sized bed, two ottomans, his-and-hers wardrobes and an en suite head. The guest cabin on the starboard side has two twin beds; the cabin on the port side has a queen bed. They share the second head.

The salon is spacious, and the galley is fully equipped for cruising. The Scandinavian interior is impeccably finished; the teak has eight coats of varnish, and the yacht has a solid teak sole.

For power, the twin IPS800s are standard, although the boat comes with three 435-hp IPS600s as options. Top speed with the three is 39 knots.

Sweden to Get New RBS 18 Coastal Defence Missile for CB 90 combat boats

This will be a key demand, as the boats are small and narrow, coming in at just under 16 meters in length and 4 meters in width. This could prove too restrictive for dedicated anti-ship missiles marketed towards the lightcraft segment. As an example, MBDA’s MARTE MK2/N which is described by the manufacturer as a “medium-range lightweight anti-ship missile system” gives the minimum boundary for suitable vessels as 25 meters in length.

However, when it comes to the mass of the system, a twin-launcher would seem to fit within the 1,750 kg limit (of which 1,400 kg on deck), which might indicate that the Navy is in fact looking for a ‘real’ anti-ship weapon, and not a converted non-line of sight anti-tank missile.

Amfbat 2030 program

The anti-ship missile procurement is part of the larger Amfbat 2030 program, which aims to increase the capabilities of the marine battalions by providing them with increased lethality and mobility for the littoral units. Amfbat 2030 includes the ability to fight from their organic vessels, without the need to disembark as is the current case, and as such will demand both new sensors, vessels, and weapons.

The contract for an indirect fire-support capability in the form of shipboard mortars has already been placed, while the anti-air capability is also underway in the form of tenders for both short/very-short-ranged air defense missiles as well as a total of eight anti-aircraft guns for mounting on CB 90, reportedly in caliber 30 × 173 mm which has proved rather popular on vehicle mounts recently.

The size of the tenders is significant, with the anti-ship missile deal being valued at 268 million Euro, and the air defense guns at approximately 166 million Euro. The decision to model the tenders based on the current CB 90 is somewhat surprising. The CB 90 is starting to show its age, and the latest proposals for the long-term development of the force have seen the original CB 90H as one of the platforms slated for replacement. Two somewhat modified versions, CB 90HS and CB 90HSM, are also in service, of which the 90HSM is the most modern development of the vessel.

Still, the CB 90HSM continues to rely on the original hull, which being small and narrow might run into issues of space and stability when mounting larger weapons – a key driver behind the decision to acquire a new vessel for the mortar turrets acquired. It remains to be seen whether the eventual procurement will see the systems currently described actually mounted on a CB 90 version, or whether it is simply used as a placeholder to provide the approximate size of the vessels.

Russian military exercises in the Caribbean: Here's what to expect

Three Russian ships and a nuclear-powered submarine arrived in Cuban waters Wednesday ahead of military exercises  in the Caribbean. While the exercises aren't considered a threat to the U.S., American ships were deployed to shadow the Russians, U.S. officials told CBS News.

The Russian warships  were seen arriving in Havana's harbor on Wednesday morning and were expected to stay in Cuba until Monday. White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Air Force One on Wednesday the U.S. was closely monitoring the Russian ships.

"We have seen this kind of thing before and we expect to see this kind of thing again," Sullivan said.

The U.S. intelligence community has assessed that the submarine is nuclear powered but it isn't carrying nuclear weapons, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reported. White House national security spokesman John Kirby told CBS News senior White House and political correspondent Ed O'Keefe last week that there was no indication nuclear weapons would be "at play" during the vessels' time in the Caribbean.

What Russian ships are in Cuba?

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the three Russian ships are a frigate, a fleet oil tanker and a salvage tug. The three ships and the submarine headed across the Atlantic separately, Martin reported.

Russia has used the frigate, the Admiral Gorshkov, to test its Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles , according to the Reuters news agency.

Two American destroyers and two ships that tow sonar equipment behind them were shadowing the submarine, Martin reported. Another destroyer and a U.S. Coast Guard cutter were shadowing the three Russian ships. The U.S. Navy also used little sailboats fitted with cameras, known as sail drones, to shadow the Russian ships as they got close to Cuba.

The Admiral Gorshkov and the submarine carried out drills in the Atlantic that simulated a missile strike on enemy ships, the Russian Defense Ministry said Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

While the Russian ships are in Cuba, the U.S. Navy ships shadowing them are expected to wait for the Russians and continue shadowing them when they leave port, Martin reported.

The ships' arrival in Havana — which the Cuban Foreign Ministry said was expected to include the fanfare of one Russian ship firing 21 salvos in a salute to Cuba — comes ahead of Russia carrying out air and naval exercises in the Caribbean in the coming weeks, Martin reported.

The exercises, which will include long-range bombers, will be the first simultaneous air and naval maneuvers Russia has carried out in the Caribbean since 2019, Martin reported. The exercises will be conducted over the summer, culminating in a worldwide naval exercise in the fall.

"Clearly this is them signaling their displeasure about what we're doing for Ukraine ," Kirby told O'Keefe. "So we're going to watch it, we're going to monitor it, it's not unexpected. … But we don't anticipate, we don't expect that there'll be any imminent threat or any threat at all, quite frankly, to American national security in the region, in the Caribbean region, or anywhere else."

The Russian ships are expected to head to Venezuela after Cuba, but it's unclear what the submarine will do, Martin reported.

What was the Cuban missile crisis?

The events in the Caribbean are different from the Cuban missile crisis that happened over 60 years ago. The 1962 crisis unfolded after the U.S. discovered launch sites in Cuba for Soviet ballistic nuclear missiles.

Over the course of 13 days, the crisis brought the Soviet Union and the U.S. dangerously close to nuclear war. A potential conflict was averted when the Kennedy administration reached a deal with the Kremlin for the missiles to be removed from Cuba.
