Alisher Usmanov’s Yacht Dilbar: Everything You Want To Know

Ian Fortey

Dilbar can be translated a few ways but, in general, it means “lover” or “one with a blossoming heart” and other things along those lines. It was also the name of the yacht owner’s mother. The yacht bearing the name has become one of the most famous yachts in the world thanks to its size, its price and its stunning amenities.

She was built by Lürssen, a German shipyard, and designed by English yacht designer Andrew Winch on the interior while Espen Øino International handled the exterior. The designers have gone on record saying it was one of the most challenging yachts they have ever built thanks to the size and all the custom elements including exclusive luxury materials. It took nearly four years for the yacht to be built. Over 680 miles of cable and wiring was used in the construction to ensure power is provided to all corners of the vessel. The yacht’s owner had it registered in the Cayman Islands.

Dilbar features a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure.

Who Owns the Dilbar Yacht

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

The yacht Dilbar was launched back in 2015 and is owned by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, president of the International Fencing Federation. A Russian oligarch, Usmanov became a billionaire after the fall of the Soviet Union in the metal and mining industries. Since then he’s gotten into communications, publishing and much more. He’s currently one of the 100 richest people in the world.

Usmanov previously owned a much smaller yacht called Dilbar as well but he changed the name of the smaller vessel to Al Raya when he upgraded to this particular one.

In March 2022, Dilbar was seized by German authorities. Numerous international assets owned by Russian oligarchs, most notably yachts, have been taken into custody by international authorities as a part of sanctions against Russia for their aggressions in the Ukraine War. It is unclear if the yacht will be returned once the war has ended or if something else is in store.

There is also some talk that Usmanov himself may not technically be the owner of Dilar and that ownership, on paper, may actually be linked to his sister. This is potentially related to some illegal activity and was being investigated by German authorities.

How Big is the Dilbar Yacht?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

One of the reasons Dilbar is so well known is because it’s one of the largest yachts in the world . It currently ranks as the sixth longest at a staggering 511’10” long. The yacht has a gross tonnage of 15,917 and a beam of just over 77 feet. The draft is nearly 20 feet. This makes her the third largest yacht in the world by volume.

Inside Dilbar Yacht

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

There is a total of 3,800 square meters of living space inside the yacht for 24 guests. This can actually be increased by the use of a number of fold out balconies. There is additional room for the 80-person crew as well. The crew can also be increased to 96 if there is need as the space is available to accommodate so many.

The average apartment in New York is 866 square feet. Dilbar’s 3,800 square meters works out to about 40,900 square feet. That means this yacht is equal to roughly 47 average New York apartments in terms of living space.

In terms of luxury amenities, the Dilbar has some unusual ones. Aside from the giant swimming pool, there’s even a full garden. The grass is a variety designed to handle living in salt air and all of the plants are native to the regions of Europe that Dilbar travels between so it can avoid sanctions about bringing foreign plants from one country to another.

Comfort was the order of the day for interior as exemplified by something as simple as cushions. There are over 1,000 custom made cushions on board, each designed to match the interior of the rooms they were designed for. Accents in many parts are bronze and light ivory. It’s said that many materials were rare or luxury items but the fine details of what went into the overall interior design have been mostly kept under wraps.

While many superyachts have a helipad these days, Dilbar features two of them. Oneis located near the bow while the second is closer to aft on the top deck flybridge.

There is a beach deck on board as well as a floating observation bay for guests to enjoy. As expected you can also enjoy amenities like a gym, a sauna and a spa. There are several tenders including a limo tender available to ferry passengers to and from shore.

Helicopter Tender

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

Many superyachts have tenders for guests and Dilbar is no different as we’ve seen. However, one major difference is that Dilbar also has an AirBus Tender. That’s a large, $20 million custom helicopter tender with room for 7 passengers. The interior is designed with a lounge seating area. There’s a forward lounge that can hold 4 passengers. It faces a gallery and the sofa-seating area where three more passengers can be seated.

The windows of the helicopter can be electronically dimmed for privacy and there’s also mood lighting inside. In-flight entertainment system can be accessed with touch screens as well.

How Fast is the Dilbar Yacht

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

Dilbar can get up to a top speed of 22.5 knots and a cruising speed of about 16 knots. It’s powered by an electric-diesel hybrid power source that provides 30,000 KW of power. According to the builders, this was the largest power plant ever installed on a yacht.  She runs on 4 Wärtsilä engines each producing 8,158 HP.

What’s Special About the Dilbar Yacht Pool?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

The pool on the Dilbar is the largest pool ever installed on a yacht. It measures 25 meters in length which is just over 82 feet. It holds 180 m³ of water which is 47,551 gallons. A gallon of water weighs just over 8 lbs so if that pool is filled, it increases the total weight of the yacht by 396,575 pounds or nearly 200 tons.

What Was the Price of the Yacht Dilbar?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

It’s not 100% clear what Usmanov paid initially for the Dilbar but its value has been assessed at $600 million to $735 million by the US Treasury department. That makes it one of the most expensive yachts ever. With a crew of about 80, the estimated annual running cost of the yacht is as much as $50 million to $80 million.

Based on some reports the yacht has a capacity for 1,000,049 liters of fuel or about 220,000 gallons. Diesel for a yacht can cost around $3 per gallon so the cost of a full refuel would be around $660,000. Apparently refueling a beast like this requires a firetruck be on hand in case something goes wrong.

How Much Does it Cost to Charter Superyacht Dilbar?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

The yacht is currently in the custody of German authorities and no one at all besides the government has access to it. That said, even before the yacht was seized it was not made available for yacht charter and was only used by its owner as far as anyone knows.

The Bottom Line

Dilbar hit the seas in 2016 and is owned by Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, though the German government has since seized it. It is the largest motor yacht in the world by volume and the sixth longest in the world overall. The value of the yacht, according to US authorities, could be as much as $735 million. It’s unknown if the Dilbar yacht owner will be getting custody of the yacht again anytime soon.

Many of the features of the yacht are only partially known but what is known is that the yacht has the biggest swimming pool on the sea. It also has a custom made garden with plants designed to handle the salt air. There is a massive living space on board unlike any other yacht on the sea as well. Guests also have access not just to tender boats but a helicopter tender as well.

Making Superyacht DILBAR: The World’s Largest Yacht

By Rebecca Bradbury   23 June 2016

A new time-lapse video of the 156m/512ft superyacht DILBAR , confirmed as the world’s largest yacht in terms of volume, has been released to celebrate her recent delivery to the Mediterranean .

The spectacular footage provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of DILBAR under construction at the Lurssen shipyard as well as aerial shots of her 2,000nm delivery passage to the Mediterranean .

DILBAR is now the world’s largest yacht with a gross tonnage of 15,917 tons, surpassing superyacht ‘Al Said’, a fellow build from the shipyard measuring in at 15,850 tons.

Indeed, as she takes shape, viewers can see her sheer scale as well as the huge amount of labor involved in her 52-month build as welders and other craftsmen get to work on her hull and superstructure.

Lurssen also revealed that the motor yacht was ‘one of the most complex and challenging yachts that has ever been built, both in terms of dimension and technology'.

The video unveils the curved and fluid lines which make up DILBAR's timeless profile

superyacht DILBAR cruising on her maiden voyage int he Mediterranean

As luxury yacht DILBAR gets underway and smoothly cuts through the water, the video unveils the curved and fluid lines which make up her timeless profile as well as her expansive foredeck and sundeck aft, both home to helipads.

She is also said to ‘provide spaces in the interior which have never been seen on a yacht before’. But the superyacht world is left guessing what these could be as the Andrew Winch-styled interior remains a heavily guarded secret.

In terms of length, M/Y DILBAR is the fourth largest yacht in the world.

Breaking news, this is what it takes to fill up the world’s most pricey superyacht.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

The 512-foot superyacht Dilbar boasts two personal helipads and can carry up to 120 people on sea.

Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov owns the largest superyacht in the world — and it will cost you the same as four supercars just to fill it up.

The plush 512-foot vessel — which has the largest indoor pool ever installed on a superyacht — is said to cost up to $60 million to run every year.

Dilbar, custom built for 68-year-old tycoon Usmanov, is the largest yacht in the world in terms of internal volume.

Although the details of the vessel have mostly been kept under wraps, the behemoth boasts an 82-foot pool, two helipads for VIP guests, a beach deck and a floating observation bay.

It reportedly has a vast 40,900 square feet of living space for 24 guests — and 1,000 cushions to keep them comfy.

According to Boat International, Dilbar is usually run by a crew of 80 to help maintain the vessel and wait on her guests.

But the crew can be ramped up to 96 members when needed – meaning Dilbar can carry as many as 120 people when sailing the seas at full capacity.

For guests missing dry land, the vessel also features a huge garden complete with a specially developed variety of grass that tolerates the salty sea air.

According to a video of the yacht being refueled on The Yacht Mogul Instagram account, a 500,000-liter refuel would cost up to $1.1 million with an average price of $2.20 per liter.

Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov brought the gigantic Dilbar superyacht to replace his previous 377 vessel.

But social media users said the costs sounded too much and that final price could also include personnel, the dock price and transportation.

Yet taking into account the average price of fuel for yachts in the US, refueling would still reportedly cost nearly $588,000 to fill up — the same price as four supercars.

One user pointed out: “If you spent $600M for the ship you certainly don’t care how much fuel cost!”

The super-secretive yacht’s price is estimated between $600 million and $735 million based on its mammoth size.

The owner, Usmanov, has an estimated net worth of $13 billion.

The self-made billionaire made his fortune through investments in metals, media, telecommunications and sport, including a stake in Arsenal FC.

Usmanov ordered Dilbar to replace his other superyacht — a 377-foot vessel which was previously called Dilbar and now known as Ona.

German ship builder Lürssen said Dilbar was “one of the most complex and challenging yachts ever built, in terms of both dimensions and technology”.

According to reports, a massive 683 miles of cabling — almost the same length as the total land borders of the country of Bhutan — was laid to power all of the amenities and facilities on board.

Lürssen also claimed the 30,000kw electric-diesel hybrid power plant which Dilbar runs on is the most powerful to ever be fitted on a yacht.

The Dilbar superyacht can cost up to $1.1 million to refuel.

The gigantic vessel has a cruising speed of 22.5 knots.

Dimitri Semenikhin, of Yacht Harbour, previously said: “Yacht projects of this scale never fail to impress, especially when Lurssen is involved.

“Dilbar is constructed in such a way that even through helicopter photo shoots, none of its features can actually be seen other than her two helipads.

“Although there are some outdoor spaces on the yacht, the majority of the living space is located indoors, which has led to Dilbar having the largest interior volume of any yacht ever built.”

Dilbar: 7 Facts

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

You’ve probably all heard of the yacht “Dilbar”. She is, after all, the world’s biggest yacht! Dilbar was built by Lurssen in Bremen, Germany. A feat of engineering, she is absolutely unbelievable. Just check out these stats.

Dilbar

1. Dilbar has a displacement tonnage of 1230: equal to around 186 Elephants .

Your average African Bush Elephant weighs just over 6000kg. There are (more or less) 907 kg in one US ton.

So, if we know that an elephant weighs 6.62 tons, we can also conclude that Dilbar is truly as heavy as a whole load of Elephants.

2. She has a colossal amount of cabling onboard…

…1,100 km worth to be exact; which is longer than the drive from the very North to the southern-most point of France (a mere 962km). For a yacht 156m long and 23m wide, that’s seriously impressive. Ooh-la-la! ??

3. Owner & Guest living space onboard is spread over 3,800 square metres, or 104 London apartments .

According to the Guardian newspaper, the average London flat covers 46 square metres- meaning Dilbar is much, much larger than your flat (and your friend’s flats, and their parents flats, and their neighbors flats, all rolled into one).????

4. Lurssen says that the 156m Dilbar only took 52 months to build.

To put this into perspective, it took around 100,000 slaves over 20 years to build the Great Pyramid : a stone structure of average height with no diesel engines or advanced audio-visual system.

5. Reportedly, you could actually fit the owner’s previous boat ONA inside Dilbar with space to spare.

This one doesn’t need much more explaining. The owner is Russian though, so it could be that he’s playing some sort of yacht-version of matryoshka dolls… ??

6. There’s a 25m swimming pool onboard, which is the largest superyacht pool in existence.

Dilbar has a beam (width) of 23m and a draft (depth below the water) of 6m, so this pool is relatively massive! Our sources tell us that the pool is around 6m across and around 2m deep, falling to 1m at the shallow end. Therefore we can perform a variable depth calculation to find the volume- which results in an estimated requirement of 225,000 liters of water to fill the Dilbar swimming pool.

Now, a typical Shell or BP Oil Truck can hold 11,000L (see where I’m going here…?). You would need 21 Oil Trucks filled with water just to fill the Dilbar swimming pool.

What’s even more incredible is that, due to the pesky free-surface effect, this pool probably has to be drained every time the boat is moved in order to maintain stability. The watermakers onboard would have to work at an incredible speed and efficiency to get this filled in time for the owner to take a dip once the anchor is dropped!

7. You definitely wouldn’t know all of your colleagues for quite some time if you were new onboard Dilbar…

The average human (never mind a hardworking yacht crew member) consumes 2kg of food a day. This means that the Dilbar chefs cook a whopping 73,000 kg worth of crew meals a year to keep their hungry colleagues’ ship shape and ready for work.

Mind-blowing.

The Curious Ears

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

Ever wondered how much it costs to fuel a $600 million superyacht? Hint – For that money, you can actually get an apartment in Manhattan and a Tesla Model S.

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

The things we associate with superyachts– size, grandeur, and billionaires; but never bills! If buying a megayacht is a big feat, then maintaining the behemoth deserves a trophy too. Many world-renowned superyachts cost hundreds of millions (Dilbar is worth $600 million), but have you ever wondered how much it costs to get these floating beasts of the seas from one point to another? Dilbar yacht is considered one of the largest yachts in the world in volume. It was record-breaking owing to its incredible technology and the sheer size and was launched by German shipyard Lürssen in 2016. The fourth-longest yacht in the world that can house a crew of a hundred people also flaunts a total fuel capacity of 1,000,049 liters. By comparison, the Airbus A380 which is the worlds largest commercial aircraft needs 372,800 liters of fuel to tank up.

Instead of a single expedition on the Dilbar superyacht, one can either buy two Lamborghini Aventadors; or a more permanent and valuable purchase of a permanent home. The massive tanks of Dilbar superyacht stir up damages of nothing less than $783,822 for one re-fuel. Still, you would save some money. But that’s not how the rich and famous are accustomed to thinking. They know the kinds of bills these big boy toys stir up, and they are used to spending millions fueling their unending assemblages of supercars, helicopters, private jets, and even mega yachts.

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

We are now aware that being rich is an expensive business and not everyone’s cup of fuel. An Instagram account @theyachtmogul, which claims to be the “World’s Largest Yachting profile,” shared a video of the $600 million superyacht getting pumped with $150,000 of fuel. Among the many exciting comments were few that asked the right questions.

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

One follower commented, ‘it makes me wonder how much it cost to fuel a Cargo ship or Cruise Liner.’ Another user, johnsonbdr said, ‘If you spent $600M for the ship, you certainly don’t care how much fuel costs!’ Considering the staggering amount of a single re-fuel, many followers wondered how long will the fuel last.

Who is the owner of the Dilbar megayacht?

Dilbar superyacht’s owner certainly isn’t one of these worried souls. He is, after all, the very well-known Alisher Burkhanovich Usmanov, an Uzbek-born business magnate and philanthropist. As reported by Bloomberg Billionaires Index in 2021, Alisher Usmanov has an estimated net worth of $17.9 billion. According to Forbes, the Facebook investor donated over $2.6 billion to causes such as healthcare and education. No wonder the man doesnt bat an eyelid before taking his Dilbar out for a spin.

Note – The price of a Tesla Model S is $89,000 and a 690 sq ft 1 bhk apartment in 25, Broad Street, NYC costs $760,000.

Who Owns the Dilbar Yacht

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

How Big is the Dilbar Yacht?

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

One of the reasons Dilbar is so well known is because it’s one of the largest yachts in the world . It currently ranks as the sixth longest at a staggering 511’10” long. The yacht has a gross tonnage of 15,917 and a beam of just over 77 feet. The draft is nearly 20 feet. This makes her the third largest yacht in the world by volume.

Inside Dilbar Yacht

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

The grass is a variety designed to handle living in salt air and all of the plants are native to the regions of Europe that Dilbar travels between so it can avoid sanctions about bringing foreign plants from one country to another.

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

Helicopter Tender

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

How Fast is the Dilbar Yacht

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

Dilbar can get up to a top speed of 22.5 knots and a cruising speed of about 16 knots. It’s powered by an electric-diesel hybrid power source that provides 30,000 KW of power. According to the builders, this was the largest power plant ever installed on a yacht.  She runs on 4 Wärtsilä engines each producing 8,158 HP.

What’s Special About the Dilbar Yacht Pool?

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

The pool on the Dilbar is the largest pool ever installed on a yacht. It measures 25 meters in length which is just over 82 feet. It holds 180 m³ of water which is 47,551 gallons. A gallon of water weighs just over 8 lbs so if that pool is filled, it increases the total weight of the yacht by 396,575 pounds or nearly 200 tons.

What Was the Price of the Yacht Dilbar?

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

How Much Does it Cost to Charter Superyacht Dilbar?

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

Innovations

The lürssen think tank.

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

YOU CAN’T PLAN EUREKA MOMENTS. BUT YOU CAN SET THE STAGE FOR THEM.

Innovation with a pioneering mindset.

Since its earliest beginnings, Lürssen has always been a pioneering shipbuilding company. From systematically optimising hull design to building the world’s first motorboat and on to today’s advancements in efficiency and sustainability – innovation is embedded in the Lürssen DNA. Accordingly, we maintain a think tank of the most forward-looking engineers and naval architects. Areas in which we have made the most progress in recent years include energy-efficient yacht design, exhaust aftertreatment and – currently – the introduction of the world’s first motor yacht powered by green hydrogen fuel cells. This last innovation, which uses bio-base methanol to produce hydrogen on board, has the potential to completely revolutionise yachting, harmonising luxury and performance with love and respect for the wellbeing of the oceans and our climate.

GREEN HYDROGEN YACHTS

The future of yachting: zero greenhouse gas emissions.

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

Awareness of the need for clean energy is growing. But in many industries, companies struggle to find mature and effective technological solutions or simply lack the vision to take decisive action. Others are constrained by the demand to deliver shareholder value. At Lürssen, we’re convinced that the superyacht industry represents a unique opportunity to make meaningful advances, which can then be applied elsewhere. Visionary owners with a fascination for innovation and a passion for the sea are predestined to support the drive for cutting-edge clean energies. In addition, as family-owned and operated yacht-builder, Lürssen has the freedom to pursue bold visions. In a strategic partnership with maritime fuel cell expert Freudenberg, we are in the process of introducing fuel-cell powered ships.

BIO-BASED METHANOL FOR FUEL CELLS

Project paxell: collaborating to drive innovation.

As of 2009, Lürssen has partnered with a national research project termed Pa-X-ell. Further partners include Besecke, Carnival Maritime, DLR, DNV, EPEA, Freudenberg and Meyer Werft. The collaboration partners have developed and tested a hybrid energy system with a new generation of PEM fuel cells for yachts and other passenger vessels. The pilot project uses methanol stored in tanks to produce hydrogen, which in turn feeds fuel cells that power engines and electric motors, resulting in zero emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, soot and CO2 (greenhouse gasses). When “green” bio-based methanol is used, the entire process becomes greenhouse gas-free. Lürssen is working to advance sustainable yachting. Take a virtual tour of the Innovation Lab and the Pa-X-ell project.

INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE: TESUMO

A teak alternative with superior qualities for shipdecks.

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

It takes innovative approaches to address sustainability issues. In 2008, Lürssen launched a project to develop an alternative to teak for shipdecks in collaboration with the University of Göttingen and the Bavarian shipdeck specialist Wolz. The result of the joint effort is Tesumo, a sustainably cultivated wood that undergoes an innovative modification process before use. Tesumo not only offers the beauty and warmth associated with teak, but actually surpasses the traditional wood of choice in many of its durability and functional properties.

EXHAUST AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

We now fit the exhaust aftertreatment system on all Lürssen yachts with keels laid after 1 January 2016. Meeting regulations on limiting nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions is a major challenge for the superyacht industry. Ships propelled by diesel engines can achieve these limits only with bulky selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems that take up space and add weight, in turn reducing energy efficiency. Lürssen set out to develop an innovative exhaust aftertreatment system that would significantly reduce NOx emissions while also reducing space, weight, noise and vibration. We launched the R&D and implementation process in 2015 with the partners HUG Engineering and Nießing Anlagenbau. The project received funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Together, we developed the concept and successfully tested it within just two years.

ENERGY-EFFICIENT YACHT DESIGN

Based on the concept that on-board comfort and pure joy of yachting are aligned with many different environmental benefits, Lürssen is committed to developing energy-saving technologies for fuel-efficient yachts that also operate at significantly lower levels of noise and vibration. Our naval architecture team achieves these goals with innovative hydrodynamics and propulsion systems. The experts use customized software, for example, in realistic simulations to optimize hull design, reducing resistance and providing smoother and more fuel-efficient operation. Further in-house innovations include a yacht-optimised air injection system, which creates an air cushion at the hull. This dampens noise emissions from the propeller travelling into the yacht, as well as from the engines travelling outside the yacht.

BETTER DATA, BETTER ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Interconnecting energy management and monitoring systems.

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

By merging energy-related data from on-board functions and systems, we systematically enhance the transparency and energy efficiency of our vessels. Operating, monitoring and analytical functions are interconnected across system boundaries. During yacht construction, the electrical design department at Lürssen gathers and analyses more than 10,000 operational data points, spanning basic alarm information to the voltage and current of each switchboard. To best utilise all these data, we have created an automated platform to intelligently and efficiently manage energy generation, distribution and consumption on board. It features an open-interface architecture incorporating the many individual systems unique to each project.

SMART MANUFACTURE

Applying the latest digital tech to tradional custom yacht building.

dilbar yacht fuel consumption

Digitalisation is revolutionising manufacturing, with the automotive industry leading the way. In luxury yacht construction, where tailored concepts and individual solutions are the hallmark of an outstanding shipyard, the transition to digitalised processes is not so simple. To overcome this barrier and apply digitalisation to custom-built yacht projects, Lürssen uses cutting-edge solutions like laser-marking to give each component of a vessel its own unique data matrix code. This links it to all relevant data. When scanned, the code enables our system to provide detailed information about where the piece belongs, when it needs to be installed and the quality checks required.

BESPOKE YACHTS

Individual visions create individual challenges.

Each bespoke Lürssen yacht project is unique, yet they all share one characteristic: the No. 1 priority is to fulfil the owner’s vision. Accordingly, every build represents an individual set of challenges. For example, clients and designers have highly diverse concepts for on-board swimming pools, which are typically one of the most important features on a superyacht and have a significant impact on the guest experience. One project called for a 12-metre infinity pool positioned transversely across the main deck. This raised the challenge of minimising the wave effect caused by the vessel’s motion. The innovative engineering solution was to subdivide the water in the pool using retractable bulkheads that counteracted waves according to their intensity.

INNOVATION MEETS SUSTAINABILITY: ALICE

A concept yacht shows what innovative sustainable solutions can do.

Lürssen’s innovative drive for greater substantiality is exemplified in ALICE, a pilot project using green hydrogen fuel cells and other environmentally friendly technologies. On permanent display at the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, the climate-neutral vessel is outfitted with Tesumo teak alternative decks. She also features park-like gardens, whose trees and vegetation create a pleasant climate and environment. On-board leisure facilities include a full-sized tennis court. Reflective glazing minimises the need for air conditioning in warm weather, while heat-recovery technology reduces overall energy consumption.

Ukraine invasion — explained

The roots of Russia's invasion of Ukraine go back decades and run deep. The current conflict is more than one country fighting to take over another; it is — in the words of one U.S. official — a shift in "the world order." Here are some helpful stories to make sense of it all.

Germany seizes the world's largest yacht (at least according to volume)

German authorities have seized the world's largest yacht by volume after determining that a Russian oligarch had transferred its ownership to his sister — who is also facing Western sanctions.

Dilbar, the yacht in question, measures some 511 feet and 15,917 tons, which shipbuilder Lurssen says makes it the largest motor yacht in the world by gross tonnage. It has two helipads and one of the biggest indoor pools ever installed on a yacht, according to the U.S. Treasury Department , which puts its estimated worth between $600 and $735 million.

The superyacht is named after the mother of its original owner: Alisher Usmanov, one of Russia's wealthiest billionaires and a known close associate of the Russian president. Usmanov was sanctioned by the U.S., United Kingdom., European Union and Switzerland in March, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Germany's federal police tweeted Wednesday that it found, "through extensive investigations despite offshore concealment," that the yacht currently belongs to Usmanov's sister, Gulbakhor Ismailova. Authorities impounded the yacht, which remains at the port of Hamburg , after confirming with Brussels that its owner is under sanctions.

Ismailova was sanctioned by the U.K. on Wednesday and the EU last week. Both entities said Usmanov had indirectly transferred assets to his sister, including leaving her as Dilbar's only beneficial owner.

"The owner of the yacht 'Dilbar' is Navis Marine Ltd. (Cayman Islands), whose shareholder is Almenor Holdings Ltd. (Cyprus). All shares in that holding company are held by PomerolCapital SA (Switzerland) in trust for the benefit of 'The Sisters Trust,' " EU officials explained, adding that Usmanov has not been a shareholder of that trust company since 2017.

Ismailova has also been linked to luxury real estate in Italy and Latvia associated with Usmanov, the EU said, and therefore has "actively supported materially or financially Russian decision-makers responsible for the annexation of Crimea and the destabilisation of Ukraine."

Dilbar made headlines in early March , when Hamburg officials denied conflicting reports that they had seized the superyacht and said any such move would have to come from higher federal customs authorities.

According to Boat International, Dilbar is also the fourth-longest yacht in the world. It can accommodate up to 96 crew members as well as 24 guests in a large living space, which includes fold-out balconies, an onboard garden (with "a specifically developed variety of grass that tolerates salt air") and more than 1,000 custom-made sofa cushions.

The research is purposed to identify the key current ecological problems of Moscow that hinder sustainable growth, and to estimate possibilities and perspectives of “greening” Moscow. Materials and methods include: (1) an analysis of environmental aspects of Moscow urban policy and (2) a survey to discover the perception of environmental problems by young people in Moscow and their awareness of the need to form a “green economy” in Moscow. The results of the study confirm that Moscow is beleaguered by high level of pollution. Superior endowments of natural resources and low conventional energy prices slow the introduction of renewable energies and lead to a lack of energy-efficient technologies in the Russian economy. Moscow just takes its first steps toward green energy and eco-friendly construction. In recent years, improving the Moscow transport system resulted in a decrease in road traffic and a reduction of the negative impact of transport on the environment. It is essential to promote environmentally safe types of transport and to adopt modern environmental standards for cars. It is also necessary to continue taking measures on increasing the density of green areas. At the moment, Moscow lags far behind other megacities in terms of waste processing, and it faces the challenge of establishing a system for separate collection of garbage and environmentally sound handling of waste. To use the potential and creativity of young people in the implementation of the concept of sustainable development in Moscow, further development of environmental education and awareness is necessary.

Six presumed dead after cargo ship crash levels Baltimore bridge

BALTIMORE — A major Baltimore bridge collapsed like a house of cards early Tuesday after it was struck by a container ship, sending six people to their deaths in the dark waters below, and closing one of the country’s busiest ports.

By nightfall, the desperate search for six people who were working on the bridge and vanished when it fell apart had become a grim search for bodies.

“We do not believe that we’re going to find any of these individuals still alive,” Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon N. Gilreath said.

Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Brawner Builders, said earlier that one of his workers had survived. He did not release their names.

Up until then, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore had held out hope that the missing people might be found even as law enforcement warned that the frigid water and the fact that there had been no sign of them since 1:30 a.m. when the ship struck Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Moore expressed heartbreak after officials suspended the search for survivors.

"Our heart goes out to the families," he said. "I can’t imagine how painful today has been for these families, how painful these hours have been have been for these families."

It was a crushing blow to the loved ones of the missing men, who had waited for hours at a Royal Farms convenience store near the entrance of the bridge for word of their fate.

Follow live updates on the Baltimore bridge collapse

The tragic chain of events began early Tuesday when the cargo ship Dali notified authorities that it had lost power and issued a mayday moments before the 984-foot vessel slammed into a bridge support at a speed of 8 knots, which is about 9 mph.

Moore declared a state of emergency while rescue crews using sonar detected at least five vehicles in the frigid 50-foot-deep water: three passenger cars, a cement truck and another vehicle of some kind. Authorities do not believe anyone was inside the vehicles.

Investigators quickly concluded that it was an accident and not an act of terrorism.

Ship was involved in another collision

Earlier, two people were rescued from the water, Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace said. One was in good condition and refused treatment, he said. The other was seriously injured and was being treated in a trauma center.

Moore said other drivers might have been in the water had it not been for those who, upon hearing the mayday, blocked off the bridge and kept other vehicles from crossing.

“These people are heroes,” Moore said. “They saved lives.”

Nearly eight years ago, the Dali was involved in an accident. In July 2016, it struck a quay at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium, damaging the quay.

The nautical commission investigated the accident, but the details of the inquiry were not immediately clear Tuesday.

The Dali is operated and managed by Synergy Group. In a statement, the company said that two port pilots were at the helm during Tuesday's crash and that all 22 crew members onboard were accounted for.

The Dali was chartered by the Danish shipping giant Maersk, which said it would have no choice but to send its ships to other nearby ports with the Port of Baltimore closed.

The bridge, which is about a mile and a half long and carries Interstate 695 over the Patapsco River southeast of Baltimore, was "fully up to code," Moore said.

National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said that her agency will lead the investigation and that a data recorder on the ship could provide more information.

"But right now we're focusing on the people, on the families," she said. "The rest can wait."

President Joe Biden vowed to rebuild the bridge and send federal funds.

"This is going to take some time," the president warned. "The people of Baltimore can count on us though to stick with them, at every step of the way, till the port is reopened and the bridge is rebuilt."

Speaking in Baltimore, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg echoed the president's promise.

"This is no ordinary bridge," he said. "This is one of the cathedrals of American infrastructure."

But Buttigieg warned that replacing the bridge and reopening the port will take time and money and that it could affect supply chains.

The Port of Baltimore, the 11th largest in the U.S., is the busiest port for car imports and exports, handling more than 750,000 vehicles in 2023 alone, according to data from the Maryland Port Administration.

Image: Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapses After Being Struck By Cargo Ship

Writer David Simon, a champion of Baltimore who set his TV crime drama "The Wire" on the streets of the city he once covered as a reporter, warned online that the people who will suffer the most are those whose livelihoods depend on the port.

"Thinking first of the people on the bridge," Simon posted on X . "But the mind wanders to a port city strangling. All the people who rely on ships in and out."

Timeline of crash

Dramatic video captured the moment at 1:28 a.m. Tuesday when the Dali struck a support and sent the bridge tumbling into the water. A livestream showed cars and trucks on the bridge just before the strike. The ship did not sink, and its lights remained on.

Investigators said in a timeline that the Dali's lights suddenly shut off four minutes earlier before they came back on and that then, at 1:25 a.m. dark black smoke began billowing from the ship's chimney.

A minute later, at 1:26 a.m., the ship appeared to turn. And in the minutes before it slammed into the support, the lights flickered again.

Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said the workers on the bridge were repairing concrete ducts when the ship crashed into the structure.

At least seven workers were pouring concrete to fix potholes on the roadway on the bridge directly above where the ship hit, said James Krutzfeldt, a foreman.

Earlier, the Coast Guard said it had received a report that a “motor vessel made impact with the bridge” and confirmed it was the Dali, a containership sailing under a Singaporean flag that was heading for Sri Lanka.

Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapses After Being Struck By Cargo Ship

Bobby Haines, who lives in Dundalk in Baltimore County, said he felt the impact of the bridge collapse from his house nearby.

"I woke up at 1:30 this morning and my house shook, and I was freaking out," he said. "I thought it was an earthquake, and to find out it was a bridge is really, really scary."

Families of bridge workers wait for updates

Earlier in the day, relatives of the construction crew waited for updates on their loved ones.

Marian Del Carmen Castellon told Telemundo her husband, Miguel Luna, 49, was working on the bridge.

“They only tell us that we have to wait and that they can’t give us information,” she said.

Castellon said she was "devastated, devastated because our heart is broken, because we don’t know how they have been rescued yet. We are just waiting for the news."

Luna's co-worker Jesús Campos said he felt crushed, too.

“It hurts my heart to see what is happening. We are human beings, and they are my folks,” he said.

Campos told The Baltimore Banner that the missing men are from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico.

Active search and rescue ends

The Coast Guard said it was suspending the active search-and-rescue effort at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"Coast Guard’s not going away, none of our partners are going away, but we’re just going to transition into a different phase," Gilreath said at a news conference.

Maryland State Police Superintendent Roland L. Butler, Jr., said it was moving to a recovery operation. Changing conditions have made it dangerous for divers, he said.

Butler pledged to "do our very best to recover those six missing people," but the conditions are difficult.

"If we look at how challenging it is at a simple motor vehicle crash to extract an individual, I'm sure we can all imagine how much harder it is to do it in inclement weather, when it's cold, under the water, with very limited to no visibility," he said.

"There's a tremendous amount of debris in the water," which can include sharp metal and other hazards, and that could take time, Butler said.

'A long road in front of us'

Built in 1977 and referred to locally as the Key Bridge, the structure was later named after the author of the American national anthem.

The bridge is more than 8,500 feet long, or 1.6 miles. Its main section spans 1,200 feet, and it was one of the longest continuous truss bridges in the world upon its completion, according to the National Steel Bridge Alliance .

About 31,000 vehicles a day use the bridge, which equals 11.3 million vehicles per year, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

The river and the Port of Baltimore are both key to the shipping industry on the East Coast, generating more than $3.3 billion a year and directly employing more than 15,000 people.

Asked what people in Baltimore can expect going forward, the state's transportation secretary said it is too early to tell.

"Obviously we reached out to a number of engineering companies, so obviously we have a long road in front of us," Wiedefeld said.

This led to a severe economic crisis and the rouble had to be re-evaluated. Since that time, the rouble been relatively stable.

Moscow is a major economic centre within Russia and within the global economic structure. It was home to the largest number of billionaires in the world in 2008. It had also been named the world's most expensive city for foreign employees for the third year in a row . Moscow is especially expensive when compared to the rest of the country. Despite these high standards, there is a significant amount of the population that does not maintain high salaries. Many people are on fixed wages and pensions that may not top 5000 roubles a month.

Boat Gas Tank Size (With 60 Examples of Different Boat Models)

One of the most important things to know about a boat is the size of the gas (fuel) tank. Of course, gas tank sizes can differ between brand and model. In this article, we will walk you through the fuel capacities of different boat models in a detailed way with examples.

On average, a boat can hold around 40 gallons of gas in its fuel tank. But the range can vary from as small as 5 gallons or less for a small boat to as big as 250,000 gallons or more for a big yacht. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the boat accordingly, worrying less about fuel volumes.

Boats are not as fuel-efficient as cars. They consume a lot of gas compared to other vehicles due to their traversing in the waters. That’s the main reason why boats have bigger fuel tanks compared to other land-moving vehicles.

Many small boats tend to use 3-8 gallons of gas per hour at cruising speeds, while faster boats like speed and motorboats can use 25-40 gallons an hour. Depending on the boat’s weight, design, and, very importantly, the type of motor it has, the fuel burning rate changes drastically.

An older boat with an older engine will have poor fuel mileage when compared to more modern boats. Here’s a table showing the sizes of different boat models and their average fuel capacities range.

Those are the average fuel capacities for different boat models. OKAY, without further ado, let’s see the fuel capacities of those different boats in a detailed way.

How Many Gallons Of Gas Does A Speedboat Hold?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

On average, a speedboat can hold around 250 gallons of gas in its fuel tank. But the range can vary from 150 gallons or less for a small speedboat to 1,000 gallons or more for a big speedboat. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the boat to their needs, worrying less about fuel capacities.

Those values may sound very big compared to other boats, but at their burning rate (which is, by the way, around 25 – 40 gallons an hour), they are comparable with normal boats with smaller tanks. Here’s a table showing the fuel capacities of different speedboat models.

A speedboat can cost around $350,000 on average. But depending on the model, amenities, speed, and the make you are looking for, the price may vary from as low as $100,000 or low to as high as $4,000,000 or more. Also, the price drastically depends on the “BRAND” rather than just the “SPEED.”

High-performance boats, also known as go-fast boats, racing boats, cigarette boats, powerboats, etc., are speedboats used in racing, recreational, luxury, law enforcement, and many other applications. By conventional standards, a high-performance boat is one that tops 60 mph.

But many of the speedboats in the market today easily hit 80+ mph. At that speed, the fuel burns very quickly. That’s why most of the speedboats have very big tanks compared to other small boats.

How Many Gallons Of Gas Does A Pontoon Boat Hold?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

On average, a pontoon boat can hold around 30 gallons of gas in its fuel tank. But the range can vary from 10 gallons or less for a small pontoon to 60 gallons or more for a big pontoon boat. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the boat to their needs, worrying less about fuel capacities.

The average pontoon boat will consume around 5 gallons per hour at cruising speed. This means that a five-hour trip out on the water will take 25 gallons of gas.

And it is very common to see a pontoon boat under 20ft with less than a 10-gallon tank. Many pontoon boats come with fuel tanks that are insufficient for the boater’s needs.

Since pontoon boats are not deemed for racing or speed, many manufacturers won’t give bigger tanks. Therefore, many pontoon boat owners replace an existing tank with a bigger one or add a tank to their boat. Here’s a table showing the fuel capacities of different pontoon boat models.

Pontoon boats are very popular among the boats. Their simple construction of the deck on two or three pontoon tubes makes it a very special boat. Two pontoons for most of the boats, but three pontoons go under the deck if the boat becomes larger and heavier.

Common pontoon boat designs are a catamaran with two hulls or a trimaran with three hulls. Boats with three hulls are sometimes called tri-toons. Pontoon boats are used for pleasure on lakes and rivers, and in some cases, on oceans close to shore.

Different pontoon boats have different-sized tanks. Most new pontoon boats will have a fuel capacity between 20 and 35 gallons. But most used pontoon boats will not have the same capacity unless the tanks have been upgraded by the current or previous owner ( source ).

How Many Gallons Of Gas Does A Bass Boat Hold?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

On average, a bass boat can hold around 40 gallons of gas in its fuel tank. But the range can vary from 20 gallons or less for a small bass boat to 70 gallons or more for a big bass boat. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the boat to their needs, worrying less about fuel capacities.

A bass boat is a small boat that is designed and equipped primarily for  bass fishing  or fishing for other  panfish , usually in freshwaters such as lakes, rivers, and streams. Unlike some other boats, the bass boat promised a focus on fishing and nothing more.

An average bass boat will consume between 4 – 5 gallons per hour at cruising speed. Each angler is going to have their own preferences and desires for their bass boat. So let’s get into it. Listed here, we have some of the best bass boat models on the market, so let’s see how they compare when stacked up.

Bass boats are usually propelled by two means: an outboard motor, which moves the boat swiftly from place to place, and a trolling motor, which moves the boat at a slow pace through an area where the angler is fishing, requiring more gas.

Bass boats typically feature aerated livewells, a flat deck, and a powerful outboard engine. The whole idea of this boat is to allow for the best possible fishing experience. The deck is completely flat, and the form of the boat is very low to the water. This allows for great control of the boat in high wind situations and in shallow waters (which is the ideal place for fishers). Outdoor Troop

A Bass Cat Puma FTD SP has a 52-gallon fuel tank that allows for easy, stress-free adventure on the water. The maximum horsepower (max HP) of this fishing machine is 250 HP. This means that with this fuel capacity and horsepower capacity, you’ll have the ability to zoom across the water at over 70 mph.

How Many Gallons Of Gas Does A Cabin Cruiser Hold?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

On average, a cabin cruiser boat can hold around 200 gallons of gas in its fuel tank. But the range can vary from 120 gallons or less for a small boat to 500 gallons or more for a big boat. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the boat to their needs, worrying less about fuel capacities.

Cabin cruiser boats are just like mobile mini homes that you can use to take the entire family on adventures. Even with small cabin cruisers, you have the flexibility to visit new ports, spend long weekends enjoying the boating lifestyle, or just kick back for a day of swimming and relaxing on the water.

Being bigger in size than most boats (including cuddy cabins), it burns more fuel. So cabin cruiser boats have bigger fuel capacities compared to pontoon boats, bass boats, cuddy cabins, etc. Here’s a table showing the fuel capacities of different cabin cruiser boat models.

A cabin cruiser becomes a small yacht if the size increases furthermore, accumulating more space on board. A cabin cruiser also has an area behind the cockpit that is open to the outdoors. This makes a great area for resting in the sun or for fishing, crabbing, and more.

A cabin cruiser will generally range anywhere from $100,000.00 to $500,000.00.  Below $100,000, and you’re probably looking at a cuddy cabin and above $500,000.00, and you’re probably looking at a yacht or trawler. Go Downsize

How Many Gallons Of Gas Does A Cuddy Cabin Hold?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

On average, a cuddy cabin boat can hold around 50 gallons of gas in its fuel tank. But the range can vary from 30 gallons or less for a small cuddy to 150 gallons or more for a big cuddy. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the boat to their needs, worrying less about fuel capacities.

Cuddy cabin boats offer day cruisers an interior space to sleep at night. These boats are often built like bowrider boats in the center and rear of the boat, but the front holds a cabin rather than a sitting area.

In fact, the average size of a cuddy cabin is between 18 and 28 feet long. Anything larger, and you’re probably dealing with a cabin cruiser rather than a cuddy cabin. Here’s a table showing the fuel capacities of different Cuddy Cabin boat models.

Cuddy cabin boats need a lot of fuel depending on the size and the usage. If you are cruising all day and want to sleep overnight, at least a 100-gallon tank is a must. Anything lower than that means you are at risk and should use the fuel accordingly.

How Many Gallons Of Fuel Does A Yacht Hold?

dilbar yacht fuel capacity

On average, a yacht can hold around 25,000 gallons of fuel in its fuel tank. But the range can vary from 1,000 gallons for a small yacht to 250,000 gallons or more for a big yacht. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the yacht accordingly, worrying less about fuel capacities.

A yacht is a larger recreational boat or ship. The word “Yacht” came from Dutch origin and was originally defined as a light and fast sailing vessel used by the Dutch navy to find and capture pirates. On the other hand, a boat is smaller in size and can be anything from a fisherman’s boat to a sailboat.

Yacht engines are much larger in size, can produce considerably more power – in some cases up to 800hp, and are capable of running much longer distances, requiring very bigger tanks. Here’s a table showing the fuel capacities of different yacht models.

Smaller yachts like motor yachts or motor sails can hold around 3,000ish gallons of fuel, while the larger ones have the capacity for up to 250,000 gallons. That could cost $875,000 to fill up the tank with an average fuel price of $3.50 per gallon. Imagine spending close to $1,000,000 to fill up the yacht.

According to Superyachts.com , a boat measuring more than 71 meters consumes a staggering 132 gallons of diesel an hour—and that’s only if the engine is on, but the boat isn’t moving. If you actually want to go anywhere, you will be spending over $2,440 an hour, based on cruising speeds of between 15 and 22 knots.

Lürssen’s M/Y Azzam currently holds the title of the largest superyacht in the world. That’s equivalent to refilling a typical hatchback car more than 23,800 times, and the same amount of fuel could fill up almost six Boeing 747 commercial airliners. Likewise, it would take the fuel of 3,636 London double-decker buses or 167 24-meter yachts to fill Azzam.

The Key Takeaways From The Post

A boat can hold around 40 gallons of gas in its tank on average. But the range can vary from 5 gallons or less for a small boat to 250,000 gallons or more for a big yacht. Yet, most brands allow buyers to customize the boat to their needs, worrying less about fuel capacities.

Depending on the boat’s weight, size, model, and, very importantly, the type of motor it has, the fuel burning rate changes drastically.
